MONTREAL — 5Continents’ recent South Africa FAM aimed to provide first-hand knowledge of the destination for the lucky participants.
Ten travel advisors joined 5Continents on the trip, Dec. 7 – 16. The program focused on helping advisors better understand South Africa’s geography, accommodations and experiences so they can more effectively advise their clients.
From Johannesburg, the country’s main arrival hub, the group headed to Shiduli Private Game Reserve for guided game drives. Agents learned how private reserves operate and gained a clearer understanding of lodge styles, daily safari routines, and what clients can expect from a wildlife-focused itinerary.
Travelling along South Africa’s stunning Panorama Scenic Route, participants explored key natural highlights and assessed how the region fits into a balanced South African itinerary. Time in Cape Town allowed advisors to experience major attractions such as Table Mountain, the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, and the Cape Peninsula, while evaluating the city’s role as a central base for a wide range of traveller profiles.
“From sunrise safaris and breathtaking wildlife encounters to vibrant cities, incredible food, and genuinely warm hospitality, it was one of those trips that stays with you long after you’re home. Every day felt different, and I was constantly reminded of how diverse and special this destination really is,” said Gravitate Travel advisor Martha Henderson.

The trip wrapped up in the Winelands, with stays in Stellenbosch and visits to nearby wine regions, including the Franschhoek Wine Tram. Advisors gained insight into how the Winelands complement a Cape Town stay and how to position this region for clients seeking a slower-paced extension.
