During the late hours of January 8, a fatal crash occurred on Robert Broom Drive near the R28 bridge.

According to West Rand Emergency Services regional commander Gerhard Nieuwoudt, emergency services received the call at about 21:16.

“Upon arrival, we found a vehicle that had collided with a tree. We were requested to remove the vehicle door to gain access to the patient, who was later declared deceased by an emergency medical care team,” he said.

Several emergency resources responded to the scene, including Station 38 Fire, ambulance services and traffic police.

Nieuwoudt confirmed that the deceased was a 19-year-old man.

“The only challenge on scene was the delay in waiting for the police,” he added.
