A MASS shooting rocked the community of Kalksteenfontein on Thursday evening after a group of seven manne, leaving three dead and four injured.
The incident occurred in Soetkop Street at about 9.10pm while the group was koeling af during last week’s heatwave when three armed men appeared and opened fire.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said that Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) detectives are investigating the shooting incident.
Potelwa reported: “Police reports indicate that a group of seven men was sitting outside drinking when a vehicle with occupants emerged at approximately 8.10pm. Three armed men alighted and started shooting randomly at the group.
“The gunmen later fled in the vehicle. As a consequence, three dead men aged 40, 64, and 66 died on the scene while four others were injured and taken to a medical facility for treatment.”
Bishop Lavis police registered three counts of murder and four attempted murders. Deployments in the area have since been bolstered in an effort to ensure that no further incidents occur.
She added: “No arrests have been effected yet, but investigations into the incident continue. The incident is believed to be gang-related.”
According to a Daily Voice source close to the investigation, it is alleged that the Fancy Boys were behind the shooting, however the people who were shot were all innocent.
Chairperson of the Bishop Lavis Crime Prevention Forum, Graham Lindhorst, condemned the shooting in the strongest terms.
Lindhorst said: “We send condolences to the families of the deceased and pray for speedy recovery to the injured.
“We reiterate our call for decisive, disruptive intervention from Law Enforcement to ensure law and order is restored.”
The shooting incident comes days after two ouens were shot dead inside a pella pos in Hanekam Street on Tuesday.
A Daily Voice source close to the double murder investigation said that it is alleged that the two were smokkelling mandrax for the Terrible Josters gang in Kreefgat and were allegedly shot by members of the Fancy Boys gang.
They said: “The Fancy Boys want the Soetkop and Kreegat turf for themselves, but that was all innocent people shot in Soetkop, because they were just sitting outside drinking because it was hot.
“But the Fancies did the shooting to prove a point.”
