President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s office said in a statement that Uanguta’s appointment as governor was for five years.

!Gawaxab was appointed in June 2020 and steered the central bank through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under his tenure resource-rich Namibia became an exploration hotspot for global energy companies. It is aiming for its first crude oil output by 2030, which could transform its small economy.
