Kawempe South residents and leaders on Friday marked one year since the death of former area Member of Parliament Muhammad Segirinya, with a special prayer gathering held at Masjid Jamia in Kawempe to honour his life and legacy.
Segirinya died on November 9, 2025, leaving a void that supporters say is still deeply felt within the constituency and Uganda’s political space.
The duwa attracted political leaders from different parties, religious leaders, family members and former aides, who joined Muslims from the area to pray for his soul and reflect on his contribution to public service.
Leaders from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) were among those in attendance, highlighting the cross-party respect Segirinya commanded during his time in Parliament.

Speaking at the gathering, NRM representative Robert Kasibante urged parents to raise children with compassion, discipline and a strong sense of civic responsibility, saying Segirinya’s life offered important lessons on leadership rooted in service to the people.
Kasibante called on Ugandans to focus on building a legacy that positively impacts society, noting that Segirinya would be remembered not only for his political role but also for his close connection with ordinary people in Kawempe.
The prayers were led by Sheikh Kasawuli Saidi, who thanked the Speaker of Parliament for fulfilling pledges made to Segirinya’s children following his death.
Sheikh Saidi also prayed for leaders and individuals who make commitments but fail to honour them, asking God to guide them towards integrity and responsibility.
He further used the occasion to pray for peaceful elections in Uganda, urging citizens and leaders to embrace non-violence and choose leaders who will steer the country without bloodshed.
Additional reflections were shared by Muhammad Luwemba Luswa, a former aide to Segirinya, alongside other Kawempe leaders, who described the late MP as a selfless leader who consistently advocated for the vulnerable and remained accessible to his constituents.
Kasibante also appealed to Kawempe residents to elect leaders capable of delivering positive change and liberation for the area, saying the constituency deserved leadership that builds on Segirinya’s passion for justice and service.
