
A 30-year-old mason died after being electrocuted at a construction site in the Kioi area of Kayole, Nairobi County.
Police said the deceased, identified as Benedict Owoko, was working at the site on the afternoon of January 8 when the incident occurred.
A second mason sustained serious burn injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
According to police, the masons were pulling metal square tubes from the second to the third floor of the building when the materials came into contact with exposed live electrical wires, resulting in the electrocution.
The injured worker was reportedly hurt while attempting to assist his colleague.
Owoko’s body was taken to the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination and other procedures.
Police said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
In a separate incident in the Macalder area of Migori County, a 50-year-old man died after a gold mining shaft collapsed.
Police identified the deceased as Zephania Ndege, who is reported to have entered the shaft on January 8 when stones fell and trapped him.
Other miners at the scene attempted to rescue him but were unsuccessful.
Police said the body had visible injuries to the head and abdomen.
It was later moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, in Garsen, Tana River County, a seven-year-old girl died after being trapped by a petrol pump at a petrol station under construction.
Police said the child and other pupils had stopped at the site after leaving school and were playing within the premises.
During the incident, a petrol pump that had been left unattended fell and trapped the girl.
She was rushed to a nearby clinic, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said they are investigating the circumstances under which the pump fell and are pursuing a suspect in connection with the incident.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
In another case, a man who had been injured during an altercation in Kipkelion, Kericho County, later died while receiving treatment in hospital. Police identified the deceased as Erick Mokua.
Police said investigations are underway and that suspects are being sought. Mokua’s body was taken to the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
