Kenya, 10 January 2026 – Nigeria’s Super Eagles delivered a dominant performance to secure a 2–0 victory over Algeria in their Africa Cup of Nations 2025 quarter-final clash at the Grand Stade de Marrakech, booking their place in the semifinals and setting up a mouth-watering showdown with hosts Morocco.
The encounter began at a frenetic pace, with both sides showing attacking intent in the early exchanges.
However, it was clear that Nigeria’s intensity and tactical cohesion were the deciding factors from the outset, as they repeatedly threatened Algeria’s defence and controlled large portions of possession in the first half. Despite their dominance, the Super Eagles were unable to convert their chances before halftime, and the score remained deadlocked at 0–0.
The deadlock was broken almost immediately after the restart. Within two minutes of the second half, Nigeria took the lead when striker Victor Osimhen rose highest to power home a header from a well-delivered cross, leaving Algeria’s goalkeeper wrong-footed. The goal silenced the Algerian fans and energized the Nigerian ranks.
