The Confederation of African Football has officially awarded the hosting rights for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to a joint bid by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The decision marks a historic moment for the East African region, which will host the continent’s biggest football tournament for the first time in decades through a collaborative effort.

Contrary to circulating claims, there is no verified evidence that Kenya paid $30 million to secure the hosting rights. Instead, CAF’s selection was based on the strength of the joint bid, infrastructure plans, and regional collaboration.

The tournament is expected to boost sports development, infrastructure, tourism, and economic activities across the three countries.

Officials have also expressed optimism that the competition will strengthen regional unity and showcase East Africa on the global stage.
