President William Ruto has made a series of appointments and reappointments to several key state corporations, agencies and boards, according to a gazette notice published on Friday, January 9, 2026.
Dr Stephen Mairori was reappointed as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) Board.
His new term will run for three years, starting January 20, 2026.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse Act, I re-appoint Stephen Mairori (Dr) (Bishop) to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse, for a period of three years, with effect from the January 20, 2026,” the notice reads.
President Ruto said the move was in exercise of powers under section 6(1)(a) of the NACADA Act, Cap. 121B.
Similarly, the President reappointed Walter Nyambati as Non-Executive Chairperson of the Geothermal Development Company Board for another three-year term, effective January 9, 2026.
Joseph Ogendo was appointed as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya Trade Network Agency Board, with his term effective from January 9, 2026, to May 25, 2026.
Dennis Mwirigi was appointed Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency Board for a three-year term starting January 9, 2026.
Additionally, Daniel Chemno was reappointed as Non-Executive Chairperson of the New Kenya Planters Co-operative Union Board, for three years beginning February 10, 2026.
In the Kenya Revenue Authority, Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning John Mbadi reappointed Hadi Sheikh Abdulahi, Richard Boro Ndung’u and Lydia Cherono Rono as members of the KRA Board for three years.
The appointments are effective January 13, 2026, as outlined in the Gazette Notice.
In other appointments, William Oluoch Adera was named Registrar of the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management for a three-year term starting September 26, 2025.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 15 (2) (g) of the Supplies Practitioners Management Act, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning appoints William Oluoch Adera to be the Registrar of the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management, for a period of three years, with effect from the September 26, 2025.” the Gazette Notice reads.
Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary for Trade Lee Kinyanjui revoked the appointment of James Wahome Ndegwa as a member of the Business Premises Rent Tribunal, effective January 9, 2026.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 11 (1) of the Landlord and Tenant (Shops, Hotels and Catering Establishments) Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General
Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry, revokes the appointment of James Wahome Ndengwa as a Member of the Business Premises Rent Tribunal, with effect from January 9, 2026,” the Notice reads.
Cabinet Secretary for Land Alice Wahome appointed Getrude Rapong’o, Mutua Mutisya, Silas Mbaabu Gichuru and Dr Fredrick Omondi Owino as members of the Physical Planners Registration Board for three years.
The appointments and reappointments reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and oversight in strategic state agencies and boards.
