

A 34 year old Bulawayo man, Nicholas Moyo has been sentenced to an effective eight years in prison by the Gwanda Regional Magistrates’ Court after committing a violent armed robbery at a business centre in Kezi, Matabeleland South, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has said.
On the 12th of February 2022 at around 0300 hours, the offender and his accomplices who are still at large broke into the victim’s bedroom behind a shop at St Joseph Business Centre, Kezi.
While inside the gang threatened the victim (43) with machetes, iron bars, and axes, demanding cash and valuables. The complainant surrendered ZAR 6,000,Toyota Hilux car keys, Samsung phones, tablet, OpenView decoder, shoes, and other valuables.
Moyo and his accomplices fled with the property but later dumped the stolen Toyota Hilux and abandoned their getway Honda Fit after realising police were in pursuit. Police investigations led to the recovery of the Honda Fit, inside which officers found the offender’s driver’s licence and personal documents, linking him directly to the crime. The total value stolen amounted to USD16,390 and property worth USD10,390 was recovered.
The court also ordered that the Honda Fit used in the commission of the crime be forfeited to the State.
