FIC Report (Lagos State) – The Honourable Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, has visited the Iddo–Carter Bridge in Lagos to supervise the ongoing rehabilitation works and ensure that the project meets required standards.

During the inspection, the Minister checked the level of work done, the quality of materials being used, and whether the contractors are following safety rules and engineering specifications. He was accompanied by officials of the Federal Ministry of Works and engineers handling the project, who gave updates on progress and the next stages of work.

Engr. Umahi stressed that the bridge is a critical link between Lagos Island and the Mainland and must be rebuilt to be strong, safe, and durable. He directed the contractors to keep to approved designs and timelines, and to make sure all safety measures are followed on site, especially with heavy traffic still using the corridor.

The Minister also reviewed traffic control and worker safety arrangements at the site, noting that the safety of road users and construction workers remains a top priority while the work continues.

The inspection forms part of the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening key transport infrastructure across the country, particularly in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub. The rehabilitation of the Iddo–Carter Bridge is expected to improve road connectivity, reduce travel time, and support economic activities within the city.

Engr. Umahi reaffirmed that the Ministry will continue to closely monitor the project to ensure it is delivered to the highest standards and for the benefit of all road users.
