Police recapture escaped suspect Tumelo Raledi in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga after a massive manhunt.

A 34-YEAR-OLD suspect who escaped from police custody at a hospital has been recaptured in Mpumalanga.  

Tumelo Raledi, who fled while under police guard at Maphuta Malatji Hospital in Limpopo on Sunday, 26 April, is back behind bars after a massive manhunt. 

Cops worked around the clock hunting the suspect, who is linked to a string of serious and violent crimes. 

The breakthrough came on Thursday, 30 April, when members of the public tipped off police about his whereabouts.  

Tumelo was hiding out at a house in the Bushbuckridge area.

Police spokesman Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said officers moved in swiftly and arrested the suspect. 

“He is considered dangerous and is facing serious charges, including rape, attempted murder, and two counts of murder allegedly committed between 2023 and 2025 in the Namakgale area,” said Mashaba. 

Limpopo police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe, praised the community for playing a key role in the arrest. 

She urged residents to continue working with police to fight crime. 

Tumelo will appear in the Namakgale Magistrates Court on Monday, 4 May, where he will face an additional charge of escaping from lawful custody. 

Investigations are ongoing.
