Osimehn: I’ve evolved as a player and as a man
Osimhen has four goals in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, level with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
This marks a significant improvement from the previous tournament, where he scored just once, against Equatorial Guinea in the group stage.
The 27-year-old is a striker capable of scoring all kinds of goals – headers, long-range strikes, and tap-ins – and his movement in the box, along with his resilience, are key weapons in his arsenal.
This season with his club, Galatasaray, Osimhen has scored 12 goals in 16 games, and he feels he is a better player now: “As a player, as a man, I have evolved a lot because I have always gone back to see the mistakes I made in my spare time and try to see how I can improve myself. From the last AFCON to this one, I think I have upgraded a lot, as a player and as a man.”
Earlier in the tournament, Osimhen had a brief on-pitch rift with teammate Ademola Lookman during the game against Mozambique. He asked to be substituted after not receiving a pass from the winger, even though Nigeria was 3-0 up at the time. The striker, however, insisted that it was never about individual records, but always about the team.: “It is about winning something with this squad and we are on the right path. It is not going to be easy but the big confidence is there and I am just trying to do my bit for the team.”.
