Head of Public Service Felix Koskei during a meeting with the Kenya Trade Network Agency (KenTrade) Board / HANDOUT
Head of Public Service Felix Koskei has emphasised the importance of efficiency, alignment with national priorities, and stronger institutional collaboration to enhance government service delivery through the National Electronic Single Window System.
Koskei made the remarks while receiving a briefing from the newly appointed board of the Kenya Trade Network Agency (KenTrade), which paid him a courtesy call.
He highlighted that accountability, transparency, and effectiveness must remain central to public sector performance and reiterated that the government maintains a zero-tolerance approach to corruption in the execution of its mandates.
Koskei urged the board to exercise diligent oversight to ensure that KenTrade effectively delivers on its role of facilitating trade and supporting Kenya’s economic growth.
He also directed that the agency focus on unlocking the country’s trade potential.
The National Electronic Single Window System, operated by KenTrade, integrates more than 40 government services to streamline trade approvals, reduce bureaucratic delays, and strengthen Kenya’s competitiveness in regional and global markets.
KenTrade reaffirmed its central role in modernising and streamlining Kenya’s trade facilitation ecosystem through the system.
Established in January 2011 as a State Corporation under the National Treasury, KenTrade manages the Kenya TradeNet System, an online platform that allows traders, clearing agents, government agencies, and logistics providers to file trade-related documents electronically through a single entry point.
The system supports the receipting, processing, approval, and payment of fees, levies, duties, and taxes associated with import and export transactions, reducing paperwork while enhancing transparency, efficiency, and competitiveness in cross-border trade.
Under its statutory mandate, KenTrade implements policies related to the National Electronic Single Window System and integrates electronic platforms of both public and private actors involved in international trade.
The agency also facilitates the exchange of electronic data, conducts research on e-commerce and trade documentation, and coordinates sector training to ensure alignment with international best practices.
Additional responsibilities include maintaining an electronic database of imported and exported goods and corresponding charges, generating trade statistics, and performing other activities that support national and regional trade facilitation frameworks.
Policy analysts note that the system has become increasingly significant as Kenya pursues digitisation across government, regional trade harmonisation, and efficiency in logistics corridors serving the East African Community and broader hinterland markets.
