Two editors of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr Remi Koleoso and Mr Suleiman Shehu, have emerged as Vice Chairman and Treasurer respectively of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council.

Koleoso and Shehu were elected on Tuesday in Ibadan, Oyo, during the chapel’s election held to choose new executive members that will run its affairs for the next three years.

Other members of the newly elected executive are Mr Yinka Adeniran of The Nation Newspapers, who was elected as Chairman and Mr Rotimi Agboluaje of The Guardian Newspaper, who emerged as Secretary.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Council of NUJ, Mr Akeem Abas, administered the oath of allegiance and oath of office to the new officers after the announcement of the election results.

Abas expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election, describing it as the first he would oversee since assuming office as Chairman of the Oyo NUJ.

In his acceptance speech, Adeniran who spoke on behalf of others, thanked members of the chapel for the confidence reposed in the new executive and pledged to run an inclusive and transparent administration.

He assured members of an open-door policy that would encourage collective input towards the growth of the chapel.

Adeniran said the welfare of members would be prioritised, while stressing the need for strict adherence to the ethics of the journalism profession.

“As your elected servants, we will never relent in making sure that we pursue vigorously all means that would ensure that your welfare issues are improved.

“More importantly, the new leadership will ensure that there is discipline both in profession and of character among members.

“You have elected us to serve and we will sustain the transparency and accountability in our dealings with all members.”

He added that the new leadership would promote unity, discipline and professionalism, and engage relevant stakeholders to enhance capacity development and training for members.

Adeniran said the executive would remain open to constructive and value-adding suggestions and criticism aimed at repositioning the chapel for greater effectiveness. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
