Rabat – Morocco is experiencing a strong heat wave this week, with temperatures expected to range between 34°C and 42°C across several regions, according to the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM).
The weather authority issued an orange-level alert, warning that the hot conditions will last from Thursday through Monday in different parts of the country.
Temperatures are expected to reach between 36°C and 41°C from Thursday to Saturday in many inland and northern areas, including cities and provinces such as Fez, Meknes, Khemisset, Beni Mellal, Marrakech, Settat, Khouribga, Kenitra, Larache, and others.
Even higher temperatures are expected from Saturday to Monday, reaching 39°C to 42°C in southern and desert areas, including Ouarzazate, Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Es-Smara, Aousserd, and Tata.
Coastal areas are also affected. Temperatures between 37°C and 42°C are expected on Thursday and Friday in places like Agadir, Essaouira, Safi, and surrounding regions. In major coastal cities such as Casablanca, Rabat, and Sale, temperatures are forecast between 34°C and 38°C.
The hot weather has been noticeable across the country in recent days. Many people are trying to cope by staying indoors during peak afternoon hours, drinking more water, and heading to beaches in coastal cities to cool off.
Authorities are advising people to avoid direct sun exposure during the hottest parts of the day and to take necessary precautions, especially for children and the elderly.
