GRAND HAVEN, MI – The Momentum Center, a local nonprofit supporting individuals with mental health struggles, is inviting community members to participate in a transformative 12-day cultural immersion experience in Zimbabwe.
The trip is scheduled for April 28 to May 9, 2026. It will be led by Momentum Center Director Barbara Lee, together with Ish Mafundikwa, an internationally respected Zimbabwean journalist.
“This experience is designed not just to see Zimbabwe, but to engage with its heart,” Lee said. “With Ish’s extraordinary depth of cultural knowledge and storytelling, participants will gain an intimate understanding of Zimbabwe’s history, art, and everyday life. At the same time, their participation directly supports the Momentum Center’s mission of building more inclusive and compassionate communities here at home.”
The cost of the trip is $4,750, not including international airfare. It will explore Zimbabwe’s urban, rural and natural heritage through a curated itinerary.
The journey features the sights of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Great Zimbabwe, a tour of Matobo National Park and an exploration of landmarks such as the Chiremba Balancing Rocks.
Travelers will also enjoy traditional meals and cultural performances that foster learning, respect and connection.
The itinerary concludes with a flight to Victoria Falls for a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River, an early morning safari, and an exploration of the rainforest and waterfall known locally as Mosi Oa Tunya—The Smoke That Thunders.
Before returning home, participants will visit Mbare Musika, one of Zimbabwe’s most vibrant open-air markets, for souvenir shopping and a deeper understanding of urban life.
A $100 deposit is required by Jan. 31, 2026, to secure a reservation. To reserve a spot, email Barbara@MomentumCenterGH.org or call 616-502-2078.
