A second suspect has been arrested for the stabbing. Police say the suspects will appear before Polokwane Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (January 16), on murder charges.

POLOKWANE – A 47-year-old Zimbabwean man was found fatally stabbed in his vehicle on a gravel road in Ivydale on Tuesday (January 13), leading to the arrest of a suspect who had been assaulted by community members.

Victim found stabbed in parked vehicle

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba says police were called to the scene, where they discovered the victim, identified as Philip Mabusha, in the driver’s seat of his car with stab wounds to his upper body. Emergency services declared him dead at the scene.

A preliminary reports suggest the victim was called to meet someone at the location before he was attacked.

Suspect assaulted by community members

Following the stabbing, community members apprehended a suspect, assaulted him, and then alerted the police.

The injured suspect was taken to hospital for treatment and is under police guard. He is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon on a murder charge.

Police open second case, warn against vigilantism

Police have opened a second case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm against the community members who attacked the suspect.

Acting provincial police commissioner Major General Jan Scheepers urged the public to refrain from vigilantism and allow the police to conduct their investigation.

The investigation is ongoing and the motive is still unknown.
