90+3′ Egypt 2-1 Zimbabwe

Mohamed Salah breaks Zimbabwe hearts.

The captain, the talisman, the best player stands up tall.

Egypt poked the ball messily through to Salah in his favourite pocket on the right side of the opposition penalty area.

He controlled the ball on his midriff and, off balance, half-volleyed the bouncing ball into the bottom-right corner.

Not the cleanest strike or neatest finish. It rather bobbled in past Arubi’s desperate dive.

But Salah, and Egypt, will not care a jot.
