The government has announced a series of appointments and reappointments across key state corporations, tribunals, universities and regulatory agencies, according to Gazette Notices published on January 16, 2026.
President William Ruto has reappointed Hannah Waitherero Muriithi as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation for a three-year term.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 7 (1) (a) of the Kenya Deposit Insurance Act, 2012, I re-appoint Hannah Waitherero Muriithi to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation, for a period of three years, with effect from January 20, 2026,” the notice reads.
The President also reappointed Phillip Mong’ony as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the State Corporations Advisory Committee for a similar three-year term beginning January 20.
Ruto further reappointed Muyumba Simon Indimuli as the Secretary of the Board of the State Corporations Advisory Committee for three years, effective January 30, 2026.
At Rongo University, the President appointed Dr Eng John Kipngetich Mosonik as Chancellor for a five-year term starting January 16, 2026.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 38 (1) (a) of the Universities Act, 2012, I appoint John Kipngetich Mosonik (Dr) (Eng) to be the Chancellor of the Rongo University, for a period of five years, with effect from January 16, 2026,” the notice reads.
Chief Justice Martha Koome designated four Magistrates’ Courts as Special Magistrates Courts to handle narcotics-related cases.
The designated courts are the JKIA Magistrates’ Court, Kahawa Magistrates’ Court, Mombasa Magistrates’ Court and Busia Magistrates’ Court.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi made multiple appointments under the Science, Technology and Innovation Act.
He named Florence M’Mogi Olubayo as Chairperson of the selection panel for the recruitment of the NACOSTI Board.
Olubayo will serve alongside members Daniel Oliech, George Nyakundi, Stephen Ikikii, Wairimu Njage, Evans Mukoye and Benedict Mutua.
Mudavadi also appointed Amina Abubakar as Chairperson of the selection panel for the National Research Fund Board of Trustees.
The board members were listed as Caroline Kiget, Seth Nyamweya Masese, Jona Wala (FCPA), Jane Mwangi, Mary Gikungu and James Kahindi.
The Prime CS appointed Shukri Baramadi as Chairperson of the selection panel for the Kenya National Innovation Agency Board.
Baramadi was named together with members Sally Tanui, Janet Kung’u, Michael Kagika, Ehud Gachugu, James Mwaluma and Peninah Aloo-Oluoch.
At the National Treasury, Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi issued two notices.
One of the notices is similar to Ruto’s reappointing Hannah Waitherero Muriithi as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Under the other notice, the CS announced another appointment to the Kenya Revenue Authority Board of Directors for a three-year term from January 16, naming Risper Olick.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (2) (e) of the Kenya Revenue Authority Act, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning appoints Risper Olick to be a Member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Revenue
Authority, for a period of three years, with effect from January 16, 2026,” the notice reads.
Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry Lee Kinyanjui appointed Nelson Ributhi Gaichuhie as Member and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Anti-Counterfeit Authority for a three-year term starting January 16, 2026.
In the cooperative sector, Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya reappointed Melissa Ngania as a Member of the Board of the Financial Inclusion Fund for a three-year term effective January 20, 2026.
The Cabinet Secretary for East African Community, ASALs and Regional Development, Beatrice Askul Moe, reappointed Benson Muema Kilonzo to the Board of the Coast Development Authority for a three-year term beginning February 3, 2026.
In environmental governance, Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Deborah Barasa reappointed Winnie Tsuma as a Member of the National Environmental Tribunal for a three-year term effective February 8, 2026.
