South Africa will aim to defend its World Rugby Under-20 Championship against France in Tbilisi on Saturday. The Junior Springboks are aiming to become the first team to successfully retain the U20 world title since France was the last team to do so back in 2018-19.
Both teams have won four from four so far this summer, though Les Bleuets have done so in slightly less convincing fashion than their southern hemisphere counterparts. A 76th-minute try from Adrien Darault sealed a 26-22 semi-final win over New Zealand to book their fifth final appearance in the last six editions of the tournament.
South Africa, meanwhile, stormed to a comeback win over England after going in trailing 20-12 at half-time. The Junior Boks then unleashed a 41-17 display in the second period, where Natal Sharks prospect Khuthadzo Rasivhaga completed a hat-trick of tries and overcame a red card for team-mate Luan Giliomee.
Giliomee has been cleared to feature in the final despite his semi-final sending off, with the sevens specialist set to give his team a major boost. Meanwhile, French hooker Gabin Garault is aiming to build on his tournament tally of six tries and finish as top scorer while taking Les Bleuets to a first world title since 2023.
