Energy Cabinet Secretary James Opiyo Wandayi has called for disciplinary action against errant officials of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party.

Wandayi emphasized that ODM, being a large party, requires its leaders to conduct themselves with utmost decorum and mutual respect. He singled out the party’s Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, urging the leadership to initiate disciplinary measures against officials who have been openly insulting their colleagues.

Speaking during a public baraza at Mahaya Vocational and Technical College in Rarieda Constituency, Wandayi impressed upon area MP Otiende Amollo—who also serves as ODM’s National Vice Chairman to ensure disciplinary action is taken against disrespectful members.

He stressed that such behavior undermines party unity and urged members to exercise restraint while awaiting guidance from ODM leader Dr. Oburu Oginga, whom he said must be respected.

MP Amollo assured supporters of ODM’s commitment to remain strong and united, stressing that the party owes it to the legacy of the late Raila Odinga to sustain its role in the broad-based government.

He further revealed that ODM intends to enter into a pre-election agreement with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), emphasizing that negotiations would be conducted on equal terms ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Wandayi and Amollo also addressed the pressing issue of electricity connectivity in the region. They noted that Rarieda has been in darkness for too long, highlighting that while Siaya County has received KSh2.2 billion for connecting 20,000 households, Rarieda has only received KSh3.57 million through Parliament to connect 4,000 households.
