A PETROL station in Eerste River has fallen victim to “fill and flee” scammers after a driver came and filled his tank with R300 worth of fuel and took off.
According to reports, this latest incident is the second successful attempt in one month.
The incident occurred last Friday when a white Suzuki sedan with a male driver and two female passengers sped off without paying, leaving the desperate petrol attendant chasing after the car on foot.
The matter was reported to Kleinvlei police station, with no arrests made as yet.
Provincial police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, confirmed that a case of theft is under investigation.
Twigg reported: “This office can confirm that a theft case was registered at Kleinvlei SAPS for further investigation.
“According to reports, the suspect threw petrol in his vehicle and drove off. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and no arrests have been made yet.”
A video has been circulating online showing a petrol attendant jumping on the back of a moving bakkie to try and prevent the skelm from driving away after filling up without paying.
The video shows the petrol attendant putting back the petrol pump and making his way to the driver’s side when the driver took off.
It is alleged that the driver filled his bakkie and fled without paying.
Details surrounding the incident, when and where it took place, are yet to be confirmed.
