Uganda plans to build the $200 million Nonda Coffee Park through a public-private partnership backed by Saudi investors.
The facility will process 42,000 metric tons of coffee annually and target more than $800 million in annual revenue once operational.
The project supports Uganda’s strategy to increase value addition as more than 98% of its coffee exports currently leave the country in raw form.
The Nakaseke district will host the Nonda Coffee Park, a coffee processing complex, following a meeting on July 27 between President Yoweri Museveni and project promoter Tonny Miiro Kibuuka.
According to a government statement, construction will begin in October on a 40-hectare site in Butalangu. The project is expected to reach completion within 24 months.
$200 Million Public-Private Partnership Backed by Saudi Capital
The Nonda Coffee Park will have an annual coffee processing capacity of 42,000 metric tons, making it one of the largest facilities of its kind in East and Central Africa.
Kibuuka said the project represents a total investment of $200 million. The Ugandan government will contribute $44 million, while Saudi private investors will provide the remaining financing.
“The project forms part of the Great Uganda-Saudi Coffee Corridor, an initiative under the Value-at-Source Coffee Project, which seeks to expand local processing so that the country captures a larger share of the value added from its main agricultural export,” the government said in the statement.
Beyond expanding industrial capacity, the project aims to strengthen the international presence of Ugandan coffee. Its promoters said the future plant has already secured the Saudi market as its primary export destination and could generate more than $800 million in annual revenue once operations begin.
Supporting Uganda’s Export Ambitions
The announcement comes as Kampala intensifies efforts to expand coffee exports.
In May, the Ministry of Agriculture signed a partnership with Turkish company Kafe Kavil to increase exports of Ugandan coffee to Turkey.
Uganda currently exports more than 98% of its coffee in raw form. Export-oriented processing projects such as the Nonda Coffee Park could therefore increase export earnings by generating more value locally before shipment.
Uganda exported nearly 516,000 metric tons of coffee during the 2025/26 marketing year, generating $2.3 billion in export revenue.
