Ongwe Minerals (TSX-V:OGW) plans to commence a 5,000m diamond drilling program at its Nguni gold prospect in Namibia by late August.

The prospect is located 17km from the Manga discovery within the company’s Omatjete Gold Project. Infill soil sampling across a 50m by 50m grid pattern has defined a continuous 6km strike length above 50 parts per billion (ppb) gold (Au).

The company notes the anomaly remains open to the north, east, and west, with peak grades reaching 1,310 ppb Au.

Fire assay results confirm gold mineralisation is hosted by metasedimentary rocks adjacent to granitic contact zones, similar to WIA Gold’s (ASX:WIA) nearby Kokoseb deposit along the Okondeka fault zone.

CEO Dave Underwood says Nguni looks like a “very robust target with scale potential”.

“We are excited about initiating the first-ever drill program at Nguni and will be commencing with reverse circulation and diamond drilling in order to get detailed geological information in this area of very limited outcrop,” Underwood says.

The initial diamond drilling program will target core areas of the gold-in-soil anomaly, commencing with one rig. Ongwe is finalising farm access agreements to extend the soil grid across immediate extensions.

Systematic soil sampling has also been initiated along regional fault structures, where more than 80km of prospective strike remains unsampled.

At the Khorixas Gold Project, shallow reverse circulation drilling across surface calcrete anomalies has wrapped up at the BK2, BK7, BK12, and BK13 splay targets, with assay results pending.

The exclusive prospecting licence hosting Nguni is currently advancing through its standard renewal process.

Ongwe Minerals is an explorer holding three gold projects and a dominant land position in the Northwest Damara gold belt of Namibia.
