Harvest of Harmony Parade announces 84th theme, Cairo Fire Chief named Grand Marshal

  • 2026-08-18

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) – The Harvest of Harmony Parade is gearing up for its 84th annual celebration in Grand Island on Saturday, October 3, 2026. This year, the legendary event will honor both a landmark national milestone and local heroism.

The Harvest of Harmony Committee has officially announced this year’s parade theme: “America’s 250th Birthday.”

Leading the march through downtown Grand Island as Grand Marshal will be Steve Oseka, Fire Chief of the Cairo Volunteer Fire Department. Oseka was selected for his exceptional leadership and community protection efforts during the devastating wildfires that swept Nebraska.

“Being selected as Grand Marshal is a tremendous honor,” Chief Oseka said in a statement, emphasizing that he accepts the recognition on behalf of all the state’s volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel.

Mary Berlie, president of the Grand Island Area Economic Development Corporation and Chamber of Commerce, praised Oseka’s dedication as a powerful reflection of community service.

“As we celebrate America’s 250th Birthday, we are reminded of the people who have stepped forward throughout our nation’s history to protect their neighbors,” Berlie said. “Honoring Steve as Grand Marshal allows us to recognize his service while also shining a light on the many volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel who continue to answer the call.”
