Former Deputy President and Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua on Friday visited the mother of the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ng’eno and renewed calls for investigations into the circumstances surrounding the legislator’s death.
Gachagua visited Mama Mary Temas at her home in Mogondo village, Emurua Dikirr, Narok County, where he said he was disheartened to find her still in distress months after her son’s death.
Ng’eno died on February 28, 2026, in a helicopter crash in Chepkiep village, Mosop Constituency, Nandi County.
Gachagua claimed promises made during Ng’eno’s funeral had not been fulfilled, without specifying the promises.
“My friend, the late Johanna Ng’eno, was a formidable leader who championed the principles of equity and equality in leadership,” Gachagua said.
He described Ng’eno as a straightforward leader who protected his community and was committed to justice.
Gachagua said the MP’s death had left unanswered questions and called for authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding it.
“His untimely passing shook the entire nation, leaving many questions unanswered to this day,” he said.
“We call upon the authorities to immediately initiate investigations into his death, and to consider involving international agencies such as Scotland Yard or the FBI to uncover the truth behind the demise of one of the most distinguished Kipsigis leaders.”
The former Deputy President also laid a wreath at Ng’eno’s grave during the visit.
He said the visit also offered an opportunity to reflect on the friendship between the Kikuyu and Kalenjin communities.
“It was also a moment to reflect on the enduring friendship between the Kikuyu and Kalenjin communities,” Gachagua said.
He also shared some of his agricultural produce with Temas, describing the gesture as a symbol of the relationship between the two communities.
“As a son of the Mountain, I was honoured to share some of my agricultural produce with Mama Mary Temas, symbolising the continued bond and friendship that no one can break,” he said.
Gachagua further said he had instructed the immediate construction of a mausoleum at Ng’eno’s resting place to preserve his memory.
“To honour my friend’s legacy, I have instructed the immediate construction of a mausoleum at his resting place for his remembrance,” he said.
Ng’eno was among six people killed when the helicopter crashed in Nandi County. The aircraft went down after an emergency landing amid poor weather, including mist and rain, before it attempted to take off again. It struck trees, crashed and burst into flames.
The other victims were pilot George Were, photographer Nick Kosgei, Kenya Forest Service officer Amos Kipngetich Rotich, teacher Carlos Keter and Narok County protocol officer Wycliff Kiprotich Rono.
Gachagua extended his condolences to Ng’eno’s mother and prayed for her comfort.
“May God comfort you, Mama,” he said.
