Former Deputy President and Democracy for Citizens Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua has mourned former High Court judge Joseph Mbalu Mutava, the husband of Kibwezi East MP Jessica Nduku Mbalu.
Gachagua conveyed his condolences to the family following the death of the former judge, describing the loss of a loved one and spouse as a painful ordeal.
“I have learnt of the demise of former High Court Judge, Justice Joseph Mbalu Mutava, husband of Kibwezi East MP Hon. Jessica Nduku Mbalu, with great sadness,” Gachagua said.
In his message, the former Deputy President extended his sympathies to Jessica and her family during the period of mourning.
“Hon. Jessica Mbalu and your family, kindly accept my deepest sympathies at this difficult moment. Losing a loved one and a spouse is a painful ordeal,” he said.
Gachagua also sent a message of condolence to residents of Kibwezi East.
“To the people of Kibwezi East, we sympathise with you at this painful hour of need,” he said.
He prayed for the late judge’s soul and asked for comfort for the family as they prepare for his burial.
“May the soul of Joseph Mbalu rest in eternal peace, and may perpetual light shine upon him forever,” Gachagua said.
He added: “Hon. Mbalu and family, we keep you in our prayers for comfort as you mourn and prepare to lay your dear husband to rest.”
Mutava was appointed to the High Court in 2011 and served at the Milimani Commercial Courts before his removal from the Judiciary in 2016.
Reports indicate that he developed complications on Friday night after returning home from a burial ceremony.
He was rushed to Makindu Hospital in Makueni County, where he died while receiving medical attention early Saturday.
His body was later transferred to Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi as the family began preparations for his final rites.
His death has also prompted messages of condolence from political leaders and members of the legal fraternity.
Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka described Mutava as a distinguished public servant who served the country with honour and integrity.
Former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama also mourned Mutava, describing him as a long-time family friend.
Mutava is survived by his wife Jessica, their children and the wider family.
