The competition featured 26 contestants representing 26 countries from around the world.
It was held at the National Stadium in the capital, Dar es Salaam, before a large audience exceeding 60,000 spectators.
The contest was organized by the National Muslim Council of Tanzania and sponsored and supported by Saudi Arabia, represented by the country’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call, and Guidance.
The Saudi minister of Islamic affairs, call, and guidance, Abdullatif Al Alsheikh, stated in a speech delivered on his behalf by Advisor at the ministry’s Agency for Islamic Affairs Mohammed Al-Arifi that holding this Holy Quran competition underscores efforts to build bridges of friendship and cooperation with Tanzania, and work hand in hand to present the competition at the honorable level witnessed by all today.
Tanzania is a country in East Africa where Islam is the religion of about 35 percent of the population.
