A vehicle was captured on fire along the Nairobi Expressway
near the entry point from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
A video shared on social media shows the vehicle engulfed in
flames as it was moving.
The social media user appealed to Sakaja, in his capacity as
Nairobi governor, to facilitate an emergency response to the incident.
“We need an emergency firefighter now at Expressway. A
high-end vehicle is on fire on the Expressway near the entry from JKIA,” the
user said.
The user also urged motorists to keep fire extinguishers in
their vehicles as a safety precaution.
“Make sure you always have a fire extinguisher inside
your vehicle,” the user said.
It was not immediately clear what caused the fire or whether
anyone was injured in the incident.
Similar accidents have happened in the past on the Nairobi Expressway.
In January, traffic was briefly disrupted after a Land Rover experienced mechanical problems and caught fire near the Southern Bypass entrance B.
According to Moja Expressway Company, the incident occurred at approximately 9:04 am at K13.
Patrol teams, working closely with the Kenya Police Service, safely evacuated all passengers and extinguished the blaze, ensuring no injuries were reported.
Motorists were advised to approach the area with caution while teams worked to clear debris from the roadway.
“Motorists are advised to drive with caution at K13 near the Southern Bypass Entrance B as our team clears debris following a successfully contained vehicle fire. Your safety is our priority,” Moja Expressway said.
The Expressway company urged drivers to report any mechanical issues immediately to their rescue team via 0111039888 and reiterated the service hotline 0111039777 for assistance.
Authorities praised the quick response that prevented the incident from escalating and urged all motorists to exercise care, especially when encountering vehicle breakdowns.
