Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has expressed
confidence that President William Ruto will receive strong support from Western
Kenya in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking on Sunday night, Mudavadi attributed the expected backing to the
government’s development agenda and projects implemented across the region.
Mudavadi said the region’s voters could surprise
political observers by supporting Ruto’s bid for a second term.
He argued that
the Kenya Kwanza administration had demonstrated its commitment to the
interests of the Mulembe community through various development initiatives.
“People will be surprised because Ruto has done a lot
for the Mulembe community, and we will give him our vote,” Mudavadi said.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary also made a confident
prediction about Ruto’s prospects in the 2027 presidential contest, suggesting
that the president and his allies already command significant support across
the country.
He said the government’s political base was strong and would
require considerable effort from opposition formations, including ODM, to mount
a serious challenge.
Mudavadi was quoted as saying, “Rais William Ruto
atashinda kura za 2027 bila petition, ODM na Kenya Kwanza lazima ushawishi
mkubwa sana nchini tunaanza na kura million 10 tayari.”
The remarks were interpreted as an assertion that the
Kenya Kwanza camp is already starting the 2027 race with a substantial number
of supporters, which he estimated at about 10 million votes.
His comments come as political parties and leaders increasingly
position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections, with Western Kenya expected to
remain an important battleground.
The region has historically played a
significant role in determining the outcome of presidential elections, making
its political direction a subject of intense interest among competing political
camps.
Mudavadi also expressed confidence in the Independent
Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), saying he expects the electoral
body to conduct a free, fair and credible election in 2027.
He further
predicted that the polls would be peaceful while urging political leaders and
their supporters to avoid actions that could undermine national stability.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary additionally called for firm
legal action against individuals involved in disrupting political rallies.
He
urged institutions responsible for national cohesion and peace-building to
intensify their efforts to prevent political incitement and promote dialogue.
With the 2027 General Election approaching, Mudavadi’s remarks underline the
government’s efforts to consolidate support in Western Kenya while presenting
development and national unity as key pillars of its political message.
Whether
the region ultimately delivers the level of support he predicts, however, will
depend on voter preferences, political alliances and the broader national
campaign as the election draws.
