Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, MPs condole with
Jessica Mbalu following husband’s death/HANDOUT
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has joined a
section of Members of Parliament in condoling with Kibwezi East MP Jessica
Mbalu following the death of her husband, Justice Joseph Mutava Mbalu.
Gachagua visited Mbalu’s family on Wednesday,
August 26, 2026, where he conveyed his condolences following the death of the
former judge.
In a message shared after the visit, Gachagua expressed
sympathy to Mbalu and her family as they mourned their loss.
“Pole sana Hon. Jessica Mbalu and your family on this
painful loss. Please accept my deepest sympathies and that of my family,”
Gachagua said.
He also paid tribute to the late Justice Mbalu, wishing him
eternal rest and praying for perpetual light to shine upon him.
Gachagua’s visit came as Members of Parliament from both the
Senate and National Assembly continued to visit Mbalu’s home in Karen to offer
their condolences to the bereaved family.
The lawmakers began arriving at the residence on Wednesday
afternoon, according to a statement from Parliament.
The MPs were led by Deputy Leader of the Minority Party
Robert Mbui and Nyandarua Senator John Methu, who joined colleagues in offering
support to the Kibwezi East legislator.
During the visits, Mbalu thanked members, parliamentary
staff and the leadership of Parliament for taking time to comfort her family
during the difficult period.
The lawmakers described the late Justice Mbalu as a strong
family man and a distinguished jurist who served with dedication.
Justice Mbalu served in the Judiciary and was remembered by
the lawmakers who visited the family for his contribution to the legal
profession and his commitment to service.
The family is expected to hold a requiem Mass in honour of
the late judge on Wednesday, September 2, at St John the Evangelist Parish in
Karen.
The requiem Mass will be followed by the funeral ceremony on
Friday, September 4, in Kibwezi, Makueni County, according to Parliament.
The visits by MPs and Gachagua come as the family prepares
to lay the late judge to rest, with leaders offering messages of sympathy and
support to Mbalu and her family.
