State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir on Sunday requested Algeria to enhance collaboration in the field of energy to ensure long term energy security of Bangladesh.
The State Minister emphasised the importance of collaboration in the field of fertilizer to ensure food security of Bangladesh.
The issues were discussed when Ambassador of Algeria to Bangladesh Abdelouahab Saidani paid a courtesy call on the State Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ambassador congratulated him on assuming the office of the State Minister for Foreign Affairs and both sides discussed views on strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Algeria.
The State Minister reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and growing cooperation between Bangladesh and Algeria.
Both sides also discussed avenues to strengthen cooperation in the area of trade, investment, pharmaceutical, agriculture, shipbuilding, and people to people contact, said the ministry.
The State Minister underscored the importance of enhancing people-to-people contacts and stressed the need for high-level visits to further deepen the partnership between the two brotherly countries.
The Ambassador responded to enhance collaboration in the fields of energy, pharmaceuticals, fertilizer, shipbuilding, maritime shipping lines and high level visits to further deepen the existing relations between the two countries.
Separately, the Ambassador of Algeria also met State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam. The meeting reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and growing cooperation between Bangladesh and Algeria.

Both sides also discussed avenues to strengthen cooperation in the area of trade, investment, pharmaceutical, agriculture, climate change, sports, culture, people to people contact etc. Islam emphasized the importance of collaboration in the field of fertilizer to ensure food security of Bangladesh.
She emphasised the importance of collaboration in the field of climate issue, where both the countries are victim of adverse impact of global warming. She encouraged exporting more biodegradable and eco-friendly jute and jute goods to Algeria.
State Minister Shama underscored the importance of enhancing people-to-people contacts and stressed the need for deepening partnership in the field of sports and culture.
