Tropical Storm Fay weakens over northern Atlantic; WDSU now monitoring new wave near Africa

As we continue to monitor a weakening Tropical Storm Fay, a new tropical wave has been identified off the coast of Africa.

Tropical Storm Fay:
Tropical Storm Fay is weakening over the northern Atlantic Ocean, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Latest on Fay
Fay has maximum sustained winds near 40 mph, with higher gusts. The storm is located about a few hundred miles southwest of the Azores and is moving slowly toward the SW at 8 mph.
Strong wind shear and dry air are expected to continue weakening the storm. Fay could become a post-tropical cyclone within a day or two.
No threats to land are expected.
Tropical wave near Africa:
Early Monday afternoon, the National Hurricane Center also outlined an area of cloudiness off the coast of Africa that has a small chance for development over the next 7 days.
