Missing activist Muteti Mulinge has been found in Lukenya, Vocal Africa director Hussein Khalid has revealed.
Khalid said Muteti was reportedly found after being dumped in the Lukenya area at around 3am last night.
According to the statement, the activist had to walk for a long distance before reaching a petrol station, where he found a Good Samaritan who helped him access a phone.
Muteti then reportedly used the phone to contact his brother, alerting his family to his whereabouts.
“He is disoriented, weak and injured,” Khalid said in the statement.
Muteti was later taken to Sanel Hospital in the Mlolongo area, where, according to the statement, he is currently receiving medical treatment.
His family, friends and fellow activists are said to be proceeding to the hospital after learning that he had been found.
The circumstances surrounding his disappearance and how he ended up in Lukenya remained unclear.
Details on the extent of his injuries were also not immediately available.
The development comes after concerns over Muteti’s whereabouts following his reported disappearance.
His disappearance heightened concerns and prompted his family and human rights defenders to report the matter to police and seek urgent intervention to establish his whereabouts.
On Thursday, a petition was filed at the Milimani Law Courts seeking orders compelling Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Director of Criminal Investigations Mohammed Amin to account for Muteti’s whereabouts.
The petition sought, among other orders, the disclosure of Muteti’s whereabouts and records relating to his alleged arrest, custody, transfer, release or processing.
