Detectives investigating the murder of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu have recovered a motorcycle allegedly used to ferry the suspected gunman to and from the scene of the fatal shooting.The recovery is the latest development in investigations into the September 9, 2025 killing and comes after detectives arrested three suspects, including a boda boda rider believed to have transported the gunman on the day of the attack.
The rider told detectives during interrogation that he was riding a motorcycle (number withheld) when the shooting occurred.
Detectives subsequently launched a search for the motorcycle, tracing its movements through a succession of owners before eventually locating it.
The motorcycle was recovered and escorted to the Homicide Offices, where detectives are expected to subject it to further examination as they piece together the events surrounding Mbobu’s killing.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the rider positively identified the motorcycle when it was presented to him by investigators.
“(The suspect) positively identified it as the one he had used to ferry the suspected gunman during the fatal attack,” the DCI said.
Detectives have already arrested the suspected gunman.
The latest recovery is expected to help investigators establish the movements of the suspects before and after the shooting and determine the roles played by those arrested.
The DCI said detectives were focused on reconstructing the events leading to Mbobu’s death and establishing the circumstances surrounding the killing.
“With every new piece of evidence, detectives are steadily reconstructing the chain of events surrounding Lawyer Mbobu’s murder,” the agency said.
The recovered motorcycle will also provide investigators with an additional item for forensic examination as they seek to establish whether it can yield evidence linking it to the shooting or the suspects under investigation.
The DCI said detectives were pursuing all leads to identify every person who may have been involved in the killing.
“The focus remains on establishing the full circumstances of the killing, identifying every person involved and bringing those suspected of responsibility to justice,” the agency said.
Mbobu’s murder has remained under investigation as detectives work to establish the motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The DCI has appealed to members of the public with information that could assist in the investigation to come forward.
