The Patriotic League Uganda (PLU) has launched a signature collection campaign in Bunyoro, targeting two million endorsements as part of a nationwide drive aimed at collecting 20 million signatures.
The campaign was launched in Kakumiro District, where PLU coordinators, local leaders and supporters gathered to kick-start the exercise.
Kakumiro has been allocated a target of 250,000 signatures, which will contribute to the wider two-million-signature target for the Bunyoro Sub-region.
Harriet Tiburihwa Ssali, the PLU coordinator for Kakumiro District, said the mobilisation exercise should also focus on improving the use of public resources to support agriculture and economic development.
She said Bunyoro has significant agricultural potential that can be harnessed through better planning, investment and efficient use of public resources.
Tiburihwa said the exercise is also intended to prepare Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for possible future political responsibilities.
“The whole exercise is aimed at preparing General Muhoozi in case of any emergency,” Tiburihwa said.
She urged leaders and other stakeholders to ensure that public resources are directed towards programmes that can improve agricultural productivity and household incomes.
The campaign has also been framed by PLU organisers around accountability, economic development, responsible management of public resources and the protection of citizens’ freedoms.
Joseph Sentayi Senkusu, the Kakumiro District LC5 chairperson, called on leaders to respect the law and put citizens’ interests at the centre of public administration.
Senkusu said public officials should be held accountable for their actions and warned against practices that could undermine public trust.

He also called for peaceful political mobilisation, saying the PLU campaign should not be associated with violence or the misuse of government resources.
The launch marks the beginning of the signature collection exercise in Kakumiro, with organisers expected to extend the campaign to other districts across Bunyoro.
According to the organisers, the two million endorsements targeted in Bunyoro will form part of the wider national target of 20 million signatures.
The exercise is intended to strengthen PLU structures at grassroots level while demonstrating the level of support for its political mobilisation programme.
As the campaign moves across Bunyoro, coordinators are expected to mobilise supporters and collect signatures at district, sub-county and community levels.
For Kakumiro, the immediate target is 250,000 signatures, while the overall regional target stands at two million.
The organisers say the campaign will continue across Bunyoro as they work towards meeting the regional target.
