Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat has called for policies and long-term investments to ensure reliable and affordable energy supply, saying it is essential to business growth, job creation and economic development.

Hamzat stated this on Saturday, October 10, after representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the fourth Lagos Business School Africa Energy Conference, AEC 2026.

In a statement on social media, the deputy governor said the conference brought together industry leaders and stakeholders to discuss how Nigeria could build a more reliable, affordable and sustainable energy market.

“Reliable and affordable energy is essential to growing businesses, creating jobs, attracting investment, and improving the lives of our people,” he said.

Hamzat noted that achieving the goal would require sound policies, long-term investment and greater consideration for the needs of businesses and consumers who depend on the sector.

“Achieving this requires sound policies, long-term investment and a willingness to listen to the people and businesses that depend on the sector every day,” he added.

The deputy governor said the Lagos State Government remained committed to creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and supporting practical solutions to improve access to reliable energy.

He added that efforts to strengthen the energy market must benefit both small businesses and large industries.

“Our energy future must be one that works for everyone, from the small business owner trying to keep the lights on to the industries powering our economic growth,” Hamzat said.
