The Dakar Research Brigade conducted operations in four cities. Seized items included dollar and euro notes, a firearm, and equipment.
The Senegalese gendarmerie has announced the arrest of six individuals suspected of being part of a counterfeit currency trafficking network. The operations resulted in the seizure of counterfeit notes valued at nearly 1.105 billion francs CFA.
The investigation began following a tip received on October 5 by the Dakar Research Brigade. The inquiries led the gendarmes to conduct several operations in the capital as well as in Mbour, Thiès, and Louga.
Among the seized items were 6,600 counterfeit $100 bills, valued at 376.2 million francs CFA, and 10,000 counterfeit €100 bills representing 650 million francs CFA. Investigators also discovered 1,200 black €100 bills, estimated at nearly 78.7 million francs CFA.
The total amount reported by the gendarmerie is precisely 1,104,914,840 francs CFA. This figure is based on the face value of the seized currencies and the exchange rates used by the authorities.
The searches also uncovered a Taurus 9mm pistol, twenty blank cartridges of the same caliber, and fifteen 12-gauge cartridges. Two counterfeit seals, a bulletproof vest, and a dagger were also sealed.
