Somalia, 5 January 2026 Somalia’s cabinet, today held an extraordinary meeting  to discuss the country’s security situation, the recent Banadir elections, and key bilateral agreements on security and maritime transport.

The cabinet, chaired by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, approved a security cooperation agreement between Somalia and Uganda, focusing on strengthening regional security. Also approved is the agreement between Somalia and Saudi Arabia on maritime cooperation.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved several legislations and policies, including the following five:

1.  The Evidence Law: A draft law on the management of evidence within Somalia’s courts.

2.  International Training and Certification Agreement: An agreement on training and certification for maritime security personnel.

3.  Somali Maritime Institute Law: A law to establish the Somali Maritime Institute aimed at improving training and the development of maritime skills.
