A base jumper has plummeted to his death after crashing on Table Mountain.

Cape Town Central police are investigating the incident after the unidentified man jumped from the mountain on Monday morning.

Wilderness search and rescue said the man’s body was extracted from the mountain using a rescue helicopter and transferred into the care of the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Police spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala said the incident is being investigated.

“An unidentified white male sustained fatal injuries while jumping from the top of the mountain. Police are currently gathering information to ascertain his identity as the injuries on his face are too severe.”
