American streamer Darren Watkins Jr, popularly known as IShowSpeed, has cancelled his planned stop in Namibia on the Africa Stream Tour after required aviation permits were not submitted on time.

The streamer, who was expected to land on a private jet on Tuesday, is said to have permits that did not meet with Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) requirements.

In a statement on Monday, NCAA spokesperson Nelson Ashipala said the company was unable to issue a foreign operator permit as the operator failed to submit all required documentation within the prescribed regulatory framework, making it impossible to properly assess and process the application.

According to him, NCAA received the application at around 16h34 on the preceding day, less than 11 hours before the intended landing time.

“Applications for foreign operator permits require comprehensive documentation and coordination and the process can take up to 14 days to complete,” he said, adding that the short notice made it impossible to finalise and issue the permit.

Ashipala explained that approval of international and private flights involves coordination with other relevant stakeholders beyond the NCAA, all of whom must satisfy their regulatory and operational requirements.

“On the issue of drones, no permit or application was submitted to the NCAA so unfortunately, we could not allow for such an operation,” he said.

He urged operators to adhere to regulations before taking on activities which involve the Namibian Airpsace.
