Varun finished the pick of the Indian bowlers with figures of 3/7, changing the complexion of Namibia’s chase in just a couple of overs as the Eagles were reduced to 88/4 at the halfway stage after racing to 57/1 at the end of the powerplay.
Will Varun unleash a new weapon against Pakistan on Sunday?
Speaking to reporters after
India registered their biggest victory ever in the T20 World Cup, Varun revealed that he has indeed been working on some new deliveries recently.
The Kolkata Knight Riders star also hinted at trying something different against the Salman Ali Agha-led Men in Green at the R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.
“I’ve been working on a few things. That has always been my process. I usually have some delivery coming up,” Varun said during the post-match press conference on Thursday.
“It’s up to me if I’m courageous enough to try it in the next match. There are a few balls that just click for me in some matches and some I have been trying for six years and they still haven’t come of. Depends on the complexity of the delivery,” he added, when asked about trying a new variation against Pakistan.
The wickets in Sri Lanka have been on the slower side compared to the ones in India, and have provided more assistance to spinners. It, thus, remains to be seen if the Men in Blue bring in an extra spinner to their XI for the blockbuster clash.
Pakistan too boast of a strong spin contingent that includes Mohammad Nawaz, Shadab Khan, Abrar Ahmed, Saim Ayub and Usman Tariq – the off-spinner making headlines for suspect action recently.
