Djibouti, 6 January 2026 The Djibouti Parliament has passed a crucial amendment to the electoral law, introducing major changes to the election process in preparation for the 2026 presidential elections.

The step is part of ongoing reforms aimed at ensuring this year’s elections are conducted in a fair and transparent manner.

The approval was made during a special session, on Monday, chaired by Speaker Mohamed Dileita. The law is designed to improve the election process, which is critical for the upcoming 2026 presidential election.

The Minister of the Interior, Said Nur Hassan, provided detailed explanations of the changes, highlighting that the amendments will strengthen voter registration laws and establish independent oversight bodies to monitor the electoral process, ensuring transparency and fairness.
