Namibia Women to Tour Assam for Four-Match Friendly Series Starting January 8, 2026
This series is a part of a reciprocal arrangement between the Assam Cricket Association and Cricket Namibia. In June 2025, the Assam Men’s Senior team toured Namibia in a 5-match series. The series was an absolute nail-biting series with Namibia winning it 3-2.
Later in the year, the Assam Women’s Cricket team toured Malaysia for a 5-match series. The visitors completed a commanding 5-0 whitewash of the home side, making history with a huge achievement for the team under the Assam Cricket Association.
All the individual awards of the series were bagged by the Assam Women’s team, with the best batter being Gayatri Gurung, the best bowler being Nirupama Baro, and the player of the series was none other than the captain herself, Rashmi Dey, for her consistent all-around performance and leadership.
The series gave international exposure to the Assam Women’s team by competing with professional cricketers at the developing stage of their careers. The intensity of the matches also encouraged the locals to tune up for the matches, fulfilling the primary objective of such arrangements.
This Assam tour holds significant importance for the Namibian Women’s team as playing on foreign soil against well-structured teams will test their skills as an away side, especially in their adaptability to the sub-continent conditions. So, Namibia will have a mountain to climb in terms of assessing the pitch and picking the right combinations to play based on the weather and roughness of the pitch.
Namibia will also be touring Nepal for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier, so this friendly tour could help them understand the behaviour of sub-continent conditions, and such a series with not much pressure could help the visitors to tighten their grip on a place in the ICC Global Qualifier.
For the Assam Women’s side, the tour of an international team like Namibia will help them hone their skills and understand the international standards that women’s cricket has set. Playing against top-quality players will help players to judge the variations and the style of play they will have to adopt if they have to play at the international level.
Beyond all these aspects, this tour will help enhance player confidence and provide the players with a stage to exhibit their talents against competitive opponents. Such initiatives play a crucial role in building depth, professionalism, and sustainability within both Namibia women’s cricket and Assam Women’s Cricket.
