A TOTAL of 140 amateur golfers from across Namibia recently took to the greens at Rössmund Golf Club for the 2025 Nedbank Desert Classic, widely regarded as one of the country’s premier amateur golf tournaments.
Organised by DZ Golf and sponsored by Nedbank Namibia, with co-sponsorship from King Price Insurance, the event delivered two days of competitive golf, strategic play, and community celebration in near-perfect weather conditions.
King Price added extra excitement with a hole-in-one challenge on the 18th hole. Calm mornings gave way to a gentle one-club wind in the afternoons, adding an extra layer of challenge and making the contest both thrilling and memorable.
Dan Zwiebel and Neil Salt (11) emerged as champions of this year’s tournament. Their victory emphasised the event’s mission to combine experienced golfing talent with rising young players, fostering the development of amateur golf in Namibia and encouraging young talent to compete at the highest levels.
Now in its seventh year under Nedbank’s sponsorship, the Desert Classic has become a cornerstone of Namibia’s golf calendar, attracting players of all ages and skill levels.
The tournament’s commitment to developing young talent was evident in this year’s results.
Nedbank spokesperson Gernot de Klerk says: “It reflects who we are as Nedbank Namibia. We believe in creating opportunity, supporting our communities, and investing in the future. Seeing an 11‑year‑old win alongside experienced players drives home why we dedicate ourselves to events like this.”
The 2025 Nedbank Desert Classic highlighted the power of sport to unite communities, nurture young talent, and create opportunities for sponsorships to make a meaningful impact, he says.
