Cordelia Masalethulini’s death is actively being investigated as a murder, and her boyfriend has been arrested over it.
Quinton Fungai Tawengwa, 46, of Warwick Road in Greystone Park, made a brief appearance before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo, charged with murder.
He was not asked to plead, but was remanded to custody until 22 January. Tawengwa has been advised to appeal to the High Court for bail.
The State says Tawengwa was in a romantic relationship with the deceased, and the two had been drinking at the Helensvale Shopping Centre in Borrowdale.
From there, they decided to go to Domoboshava, but on the way, they were impeded by rain and stayed at a place on Whisper Road up to around 10 pm.
While there, they had a misunderstanding, and Masalethulini initially refused to go home with Tawengwa.
When the rain subsided, the two left on foot towards Harare-Domboshava Road.
Masalethulini’s body was found at 6 am on 5 January on that road.
The State says that when he was arrested, Tawengwa’s clothes had fresh blood stains. The CID Forensic Science Laboratory is analysing them.
Masalethulini’s body was taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.
