Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has appointed former aide to Raila Odinga, Maurice Ogeta as county Adviser on Security Affairs.
The governor said the appointment was made following the establishment of the position by the Mombasa County Public Service Board, in line with the law.
In a statement, Nassir cited Ogeta’s extensive experience and deep institutional knowledge gained at local, regional and global levels.
“I have today made appointments in the Executive Office of the Governor following the establishment of positions by the Mombasa County Public Service Board, in line with the provisions of the law. Mr. Maurice Ogeta has been appointed to serve as Advisor, Security Affairs in the County Government of Mombasa, the governor said.
“This appointment is informed by his many years of experience and deep institutional knowledge built at local, regional and global levels, including his service to our late Founding Party Leader, H. E. Raila Odinga, C.G.H.”

Ogeta previously worked closely with the late founding ODM party leader, Raila Odinga.
The governor also named Ken Ambani as Advisor on Creative Arts, a move aimed at revitalising Mombasa’s creative sector. Nassir said Ambani’s first-hand experience and understanding of the industry will be key in supporting artists, empowering youth and growing the county’s creative economy.
“I have also appointed Ken Ambani as my Advisor on Creative Arts. His wealth of knowledge and first-hand experience in the sector will be instrumental as we work to revive and grow the creative industry in Mombasa for the benefit of our artists, youth and the wider economy.”

The development comes weeks after former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria announced plans to support Ogeta establish a VIP protection and training company.
Speaking at Ogeta’s Uyoma home in Siaya County in December, Kuria said the initiative is driven by a desire to help Ogeta transition into entrepreneurship while sharing his professional experience with others.
Kuria described Ogeta as a highly skilled and dedicated professional whose expertise should be institutionalised through a formal business rather than confined to personal assignments.
“I think Morris should impact other people. That is what Baba would have wanted,” Kuria said, referring to Raila.
“If Baba would come back to find Morris serving as bodyguard to a small person like Moses Kuria, Baba would be upset. Nobody that I know deserves Morris Ogeta, not one person.”

Kuria said the decision followed consultations with Ogeta about his future plans.
According to him, the idea to venture into VIP protection and training emerged from a mutual understanding rather than external direction.
“I didn’t tell him what to do, I asked him what he wants to do and he told me,” Kuria said, adding that the agreement was for Ogeta to pursue what he loves and is best known for.
