Police in the Western Kenya region have arrested eight
suspects during a crackdown operation against illicit brews in Kakamega and
Vihiga counties.
Led by Western Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamed, detectives
on Thursday raided Shikumu Location in Kakamega and Kilingili Location in
Vihiga, covering Lwanaswa, Kaluni, and Ishieywe villages.
According to the National Police Service, the eight
suspects were arrested during the raid and 50,000 litres of Kangara destroyed.
The officers also dismantled 613 brewing apparatus and recovered
350 litres of Chang’aa.
The suspects have since been placed in custody for
processing, awaiting arraignment, while the exhibits have been secured and stored
at a police facility.
