The Electoral Commission (EC) today, January 10, 2026, held a regional multi-stakeholder engagement meeting, a critical precursor activity to the conduct of the 2026 general elections, kicking off on January 15, 2026.
The meeting held at the EC regional offices in Arua city brought together the media, representatives of political parties, heads of security agencies, the civil society, and returning officers of the electoral commission in all 13 administrative units in the region.
The stakeholders were briefed on the key electoral processes, such as the management of the electoral process; guidelines during the polling day, opening and closure of the polling cycle and the role of various stakeholders in the electoral process.
While opening the stakeholders engagement meeting, Anthony Okello, the commissioner Electoral Commission in charge of the central North, assured the stakeholders that the EC is ready to conduct a credible, all-inclusive, transparent electoral process.
During plenary, Hon Kassiano Wadri Ezati, who is seeking for election for the MP seat in Arua central division in Arua city challenged the electoral commission to clarify on grey areas around seating arrangements at polling stations, management of spoilt ballot papers and the provisions of the law for those who have cast their ballots to keep a distance of 20 metres after casting their ballots under the guise of safeguarding their votes.
Responding to the queries, Commissioner Okello explained that the electoral commission has prepared in all ways to ensure the conduct of a credible and transparent election.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has assured Ugandans that it will conduct a nearly flawless electoral process by deploying the biometric voters verification (BVVK) kit.
According to the EC officials, at least two BVVK equipment shall be deployed at every polling station to enhance the conduct of the electoral process.
The EC assures Ugandans that all the polling day officials have received the necessary skills and expertise to man the electoral process.
